Customer Account Changes

We’ve moved to quote-based pricing. Every order is priced at the time you place it and fulfilled like any other service — no guesswork, no gimmicks.

This reflects how we prefer to work: straightforward pricing over marketing angles. It also means we’ve retired our loyalty points program. We’d rather earn your return through the convenience and service we provide than through points that pressure you to come back.

What this means for existing rewards: any points you’ve already earned will be paid out as a single coupon, valued at your recorded points balance.

And going forward, our loyalty program has evolved into a premium account tier built around the working relationship you want with us — from one-off projects to ongoing wholesale. Whatever that looks like, our commitment is the same: equal service for every customer. Please Contact Us for any questions not answered below.

FAQ

The shop, our materials, ordering, and getting help.

What does Craft Cut Concepts make?

We design and laser-cut shapes and blanks in our Minnesota shop. Every piece is cut to order — nothing sits on a shelf as generic stock — so the shape you buy is cut for your order.

What are the pieces made from?

Our standard catalog is cut from Baltic Birch plywood in two thicknesses: 1/8″ (3mm) and 1/4″ (6mm). Baltic Birch is a clean, tight-plied, highly renewable hardwood plywood that cuts crisp and finishes well.

Other materials are available through Concept Studio, our customization tool. — see the Concept Studio section below.

What sizes can I order?

Catalog listings run up to 18+”. If you’d like something larger or a size that isn’t listed, Concept Studio lets you size a design up to 24″ with live pricing. Anything beyond 24″ is handled as a quote — see “How does a quote work?” below.

Are pieces finished, or ready to finish?

Every piece ships unfinished. That’s deliberate — finishing is where our customers’ artistry lives, and we’d rather hand you a clean canvas than compete with the makers we’re here to serve. Kitted items, multi-piece sets, and lightly assembled pieces are always identified as such on the listing. Some personalization formats include light assembly too — often pairing different hardwoods so the natural grain and color carry the piece.

What does “made to order” mean for timing?

Because each piece is cut for your order, there’s a short production window before it ships. We show a lead-time estimate wherever we can. If you have a deadline or a time-sensitive project, reach out before ordering and we’ll confirm what’s realistic.

How does shipping work?

Every order valued at over $35 ships free using standard economical, but rigid shipping services. Order’s valued less than $35 have shipping rates applied based on the net volume of your order. Current shipping services we use to render delivery currently include USPS, UPS, and FedEx where available.

Do I need an account to order?

To customize a design or request a quote in Concept Studio, you’ll sign in first — that’s how your custom work and quotes are saved to your account and kept private to you. Guest checkout is available for standard catalog items.

Why is the price shown as a range?

A design’s price range reflects the span from its smallest to largest available size, material, and thickness. Pick a size, material, and thickness and the exact price is shown before you add to cart. Where a design is sold in multi-piece packs, pack pricing is shown too.

How can I pay?

We accept major credit and debit cards, and PayPal.

Do you charge sales tax? Can I buy tax-exempt for resale?

Sales tax applies to Minnesota residents and other states where an economic nexus is present (Sales Tax Institute) Contact Us . If you buy for resale and hold a valid exemption, you can request tax-exempt status from your account — see “Do you work with makers and wholesale buyers?” below.

What if I need to return something, or it arrives damaged?

Right away please – Contact Us or speak with Brigid, our shop assistant who will escalate right away.

Are you on Etsy too?

Yes — you’ll find many of the same designs in our Etsy shop. Ordering here on our own site is the way to customize a design and reach materials and sizes that aren’t offered on the marketplace.

Do you work with makers and wholesale buyers?

We work with makers across the range — from hobbyists to wholesale. Sign in and, from your account dashboard, tell us how you’d like to work with us; if you buy for resale, you can attach a tax-exemption request in the same form. We’ll review it and follow up.

Concept Studio Questions

Customizing a design, quotes, and your saved work.

What is Concept Studio?

Concept Studio is our in-browser tool for making a design your own. You can change the size, thickness, and material, flip the design, add a hanging hole, or place holes where you want them — with the price updating live as you go. When it’s right, you add it to your cart or send it for a quote.

How do I open Concept Studio?

Look for the “Customize in Concept Studio” on a design’s product page, product card, or the “New Quote” button. You’ll sign in first, then the design loads into the tool ready to configure.

Why do I have to sign in to customize?

Signing in lets us save your work. Your customized designs and quotes are stored in your account under My Artwork and My Quotes, and your custom artwork stays private to you.

What can I customize?

Depending on the design, you can set the size (up to 24″), choose thickness and material — including materials that aren’t offered in the standard catalog — mirror-flip the design, add a hanging hole, and place holes of your own up to 1″ across. The preview updates as you change things so you can see what you’re ordering.

What’s the difference between “Add to Cart” and “Add to Quote”?

Most configurations price instantly and go straight to your cart. Some go to a quote instead — for example a size beyond our standard range, certain hole placements, or a material that needs a closer look. When that’s the case, Concept Studio hands you the quote path instead of the cart.

How does a quote work?

You submit the quote from Concept Studio and we review it. It then shows in your account under My Quotes as either Quoted — ready to buy — or No Quote, with the reason so you know why. A pending quote can be removed by you any time before we respond.

Can I get a quote on my own idea, even if you don’t already sell it?

Yes. Open Concept Studio and use Direct Quote to send us your concept — including a file up to 25 MB — and we’ll take a look. You don’t need to start from one of our existing designs.

Where do my customizations and quotes live?

Everything is in your account. My Quotes holds your quote requests and their status; My Artwork holds the custom pieces we’ve prepared for you; and your past orders are there to view and reorder.

If my quote is approved, is that price locked in?

Quote pricing is priced just like any other of our designs at the time of order. Factors that involve prices would be material and shop rate costs assigned to the various processes needed to render a quote to a delivered service/product.

Can I download the design or cut file?

No — Concept Studio shows you a true preview of your design, but the cut files themselves stay with us. That’s deliberate: it protects our designs. What you receive is the finished physical piece.

What are the rules for holes and hanging holes?

You can add a hanging hole where the design allows. Each placement is checked against the design as you set it; a placement that isn’t safe to cut is routed to a quote rather than blocked outright, so we can find a way to make it work.

Does Concept Studio work on my phone?

Yes. Concept Studio works on phones and tablets, including placing and dragging holes by touch.

Concept Studio Flags

As you configure a design in Concept Studio, a status flag shows whether your setup is ready to check out. Valid means you’re good to go. A Warning means we can still make it — we just want you to know something first. Invalid means the configuration falls outside what we can price automatically, so it needs a quick custom quote. Here’s what each flag means.

Note: This size falls below our minimum recommended size

You’ve chosen a size smaller than we recommend for this design. At very small sizes, fine detail stops cutting cleanly: delicate tips get fragile, thin features become weak points, and a lot of detail packed into a small footprint can end up reading as lower quality once it’s in your hands. We’ll still make it at this size — this note is just so you know what to expect. If crisp detail matters for your project, sizing up a little usually solves it.

One or more holes are placed close to the edge — BOSS required

One of your holes sits closer to an edge than our minimum spacing allows. To keep the piece strong and cleanly cuttable, we automatically add a small reinforced pad of material around it — a “boss.” That lets your configuration check out normally while staying durable. If you’d rather have the hole without the added boss, or need a placement we can’t auto-approve, we’re glad to quote it with the trade-offs spelled out — just use the quote option.

Quote required — non-standard configuration or size

Some configurations fall outside what we can price and check out automatically — for example, a size beyond our standard range, or a hole placement we can’t approve as-is. That doesn’t mean we can’t make it; it just means it needs a human review and a custom quote. Use the Add to Quote button and we’ll take a look and come back with pricing and any notes.
